Maumelle, Arkansas - April 6, 2009 - CenterPoint Energy employees bowled in the Junior Achievement’s (JA) Strike for Education Bowl-a-thon last Friday at the Millennium Bowl in Maumelle, Ark. Two, five-person teams represented the company, raising more than $1,000 for JA’s in-school education programs. CenterPoint Energy also donated door prizes to help support the event.
In addition to raising money at the JA Bowl-a-thon, CenterPoint Energy employees volunteer their time to teach Little Rock students the basics on how to be a successful individual using real-life scenarios and practical application through JA’s in-school mentoring program.
“I’ve been a JA volunteer for five years and the face to face interaction with the kindergarteners I teach is the most rewarding feeling,” said Clarissa McWherter, a CenterPoint Energy engineer.
CenterPoint Energy’s Central District Manager, Chuck Renegar, is a local JA board member and is also an active JA teacher.
Junior Achievement's Strike for Education Bowl-a-thon is one of JA’s largest annual fund-raisers. The dollars generated by this event help provide in-school education programs for students in grades K-12.
